San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area, February 22

The feeders around the San Pedro House were very active with Lesser Goldfinches,
blackbirds (Red-wingeds mostly, but also a couple of Yellow-headed), and the
following.

Pyrrhuloxia

Perhaps a gambelii-oriantha intergrade White-crowned Sparrow with an orange bill and a black supra-loral line.
We did not see a great variety of birds this day but when we
saw this bird, we were very happy!

Vermilion Flycatcher

A view of the Huachuca Mountains from the San Pedro Riparian

Sulphur Springs Valley, February 23

One of the Willcox ponds near Lake Cochise.
The plan was to bird the valley a little and then go to the Chiracahua National Monument. It was very cold and windy in the morning and we were concerned that it could be much worse in the Monument, so we stayed in the valley all day. Due to the wind, bird photo-ops were not the greatest but we managed a few.

Bendire's Thrasher, taken with Betsy's camera from the car - the bird was 10
feet away and singing quietly!
One of the most wanted species on the trip for me was the following. We
actually saw a dozen on this day!

Ferruginous Hawk

Dark-morph Red-tailed Hawk

Lark Buntings - recent escapes?
We read in Taylor's Arizona guide to check abandoned buildings for Barn Owls. We found the following bird in the only building we checked!

Barn Owl
One of our targets this day was the following species, which turned out to be a little camera shy.

Scaled Quail
