Around Patagonia, February 19-20

The scenery across the road from the famous Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve.
At the famous Paton homestead, birders are still welcomed by the new residents. The birds and the viewing are still spectacular.

On a tip from Michael, the new resident at the Paton's, we spent some time along the Santa Cruz River in Kino Springs, where we saw our only Lawrence's Goldfinches of the trip. The weather on our trip into the San Rafael Grasslands was cold, wet, and windy, resulting in few birds. One major highlight, however, was a stunning Prairie Merlin (F. c. richardsoni), which flew just before I snapped a photo.
